Engine Company 41 / Ladder Company 14

HISTORY

This firehouse was opened on June 15, 1977 when Engine Company 41 and Ladder Company 14 moved in from their old firehouse at 16 Harvard Avenue, several blocks away.

The new firehouse is located at 460 Cambridge Street, at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Brighton Avenue, in the Union Square section of the city. It is one of three firehouses located in an area that is surrounded by Brookline, Newton and Cambridge.

Engine 41 and Ladder 14 respond primarily to incidents in the Allston and Brighton sections of the city. They also respond to incidents in the Fenway area, as far east as Kenmore Square.

Plaques are mounted on the exterior of the firehouse to commemorate four firefighters who died in the Line Of Duty:

** The plaque for Firefighter Hopkins of Engine 34 was moved from its old location at 444 Western Avenue in anticipation of Engine 34 moving into the quarters of Engine 41. That move never took place and Engine 34 was disbanded in 1981. He had been detailed from Engine 34 to Ladder 14 for the tour of duty during which he sustained his fatal injuries.

Engine 41 responds to approximately 3000 incidents per year. Ladder 14 responds to approximately 2700 incidents per year.
