HISTORY

This firehouse was opened on June 27, 1973 when Engine Company 52 and Ladder Company 29 moved in from their former quarters at 120 Callender Street, Dorchester.

Rescue Company 2 moved in on August 16, 1973 from their former quarters at Ladder 23 at 36 Washington Street in Roxbury. Rescue 2 was disbanded on April 10, 1981. (It was reorganized in 1985 at the quarters of Engine Company 42 in Roxbury.)

The firehouse is located at 975 Blue Hill Avenue at the corner of Donald Road, in the Dorchester section of the city.

Engine 52 and Ladder 29 have a large response area, responding to incidents in the Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Roslindale sections of the city.

Engine 52 responds to approximately 2600 incidents per year. Ladder 29 responds to approximately 2500 incidents per year.
