EARLY HISTORY

July 27, 1733 Engine No. 1 became Engine No. 7 and was located in Queen Street (now Court Street).
March 24, 1744 Moved to a shed in the rear of the Old South Meeting House on Milk Street.
1758 Name was changed to New York Engine No. 7.
March 25, 1801 Moved to School Street opposite City Hall. Name changed to Extinguisher Engine No. 7.
1826 Name changed back to New York Engine No. 7.
September 28, 1835 Name was changed to Tiger Engine No. 7.
1838 Name changed to Howard Engine No. 7 and located on Pearl Street.
1839 Located in Court Square.
1848 Moved to a new house on Purchase Street.
July 7, 1855 Name changed back to Tiger Engine No. 7.
December 16, 1858 Hand Engine Company disbanded.
January 1, 1860 Steam Engine No. 7 placed into service and named Lawrence Engine No. 7.
June 2, 1868 Name changed to Amory Engine No. 7.
September, 1870 Moved into new quarters on East Street.
1873 Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 7 - as it remains today).
