EARLY HISTORY

1755 Cumberland Engine No. 8 organized in Newbury Street (now part of Washington Street).
December 2, 1761 Moved to the South End (now Washington Street and Essex Street).
January 16, 1763 Firehouse burned.
November 19, 1827 New house built in Warren Street (now Warrenton Street).
May 17, 1830 Moved to Franklin School House, School Street.
April 3, 1837 Name changed to Tremont Engine No. 8 and moved to a new house near the Johnson School.
1849 Company disbanded.
1852 Engine No. 15 was changed to Boston Engine No. 8 and located on Commercial Street.
October 31, 1859 Hand Engine Company disbanded.
November 1, 1859 Steam Engine No. 8 placed into service at North Bennett Street (First Permanent Engine Company in the city).
June 2, 1868 Name changed to Northern Liberty Engine No. 8 and moved to a new house built in Salem Street, North End, with Hose 1.
1873 Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 8 - as it remains today).
