Boston Engine No. 2 organized and was located on Sea Street (now Atlantic Avenue between Kneeland and Summer Streets).

Was called Extinguisher Engine No. 20.

1839
|
Moved to East Street (near South Station).

|
1852
|
Changed to Extinguisher Engine No. 5, on East Street, and later disbanded.

January 3, 1870
|
Dorchester annexed to Boston. Independence Engine Company 5 of the Dorchester Fire Department became
Independence Engine No. 20 and was located in a new house in Walnut Street, Neponset.

Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 20 - as it remains today).
