HISTORYThis firehouse was built in 1923 on the same site of a firehouse built in 1870. Engine Company 7 moved back into the new firehouse on June 27, 1923. Engine Company 7 had moved into the original firehouse on this site on September 25, 1870. The firehouse is located at 7 East Street, at the corner of East Street Place, near South Station. The 1870 city report on the construction of the original firehouse:
From the earlier firehouse, Engine 7 was first-due on September 9, 1872 to Box 52, The Great Boston Fire of 1872, which started at the corner of Summer and Kingston Streets, only a few blocks from the quarters of Engine 7. Engine 7 moved out on November 12, 1953 and the firehouse was closed. In later years its was bought and used by a commercial window and door company. In 2007 it was converted to a restaurant and remains extant.
