HISTORY

Hose Company 1 (Salem Street) was organized in this firehouse on April 1, 1860. It is unknown when the firehouse was built.

This firehouse is located at 112 Salem Street, at the corner of Jerusalem Place.

Hose 1 stayed here until 1868 when they moved into a new firehouse at 133 Salem Street, one block away.

The Department used the firehouse as a coaling station. The fireman assigned here would deliver coal for the steam fire engines at fire scenes throughout the city.

The building was sold, remains extant, and is currently used for commercial and residential use. LoConte's Restaurant occupies the first floor.
