HISTORY

This firehouse was built in 1865 as part of the Roxbury Fire Department.

The firehouse was located at 201 Cabot Street at Whittier Street in Roxbury.

At this firehouse on January 6, 1868, Tremont Engine 7 of the Roxbury Fire Department became Engine Company 13 of the Boston Fire Department. The Cochituate Hose Company of the Roxbury Fire Department became Hose Company 7 (Roxbury) of the Boston Fire Department.

On June 2, 1868, all fire companies were authorized to have a Name and Number, a practice that had been used in years past. Engine 13 became Tremont No. 13. The name and number concept stayed in effect until 1873, when Tremont No. 13 reverted back to Engine 13.

The firehouse was remodelled in 1870.

During 1875, Hose 7 moved to the quarters of Ladder Company 12 at 1046 Tremont Street.

Engine 13 stayed at this firehouse throughout the years between 1868 to April 21, 1938, when the company moved to the quarters of the Ladder Company 12 at 1046 Tremont Street, Roxbury. The firehouse at 201 Cabot Street was closed and later the building was demolished.

The site today is covered by the Madison Park High School campus.
