11/28/2012 Historical Information Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Cocoanut Grove (CG) Fire which occurred on the evening November 28, 1942.

The Boston Fire Historical Society is partnering with several other organizations in the creation of the 'Cocoanut Grove Coalition' (CGC). The purpose of the CGC is perserve the historical record of the fire, its victims, the general public, the firefighting community and contribute to the study of local history.

The CGC has developed a website cocoanutgrovefire.org , which is designed to be 'single source' for all aspects of the CG Fire. Other organizations contributing to the CGC are:
  1. National Fire Protection Association
  2. Boston Public Library
  3. Boston Fire Department
  4. Boston Fire Museum
  5. City of Boston Archives
  6. Massachusetts General Hospital
The CGC encourages anyone who has a 'story to tell', documents, photographs, or other historical information or artifacts, to please contact the CGC on the web at Contact the CGC, by email at cocanutgrovefire@nfpa.org, or by phone to 617-984-7445.

On Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 12 Noon, a memorial dedication ceremony for 6 Boston firefighters lost at the Maverick Square Fire of November 15, 1942, will be held at 20 Maverick Square, East Boston, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary.

11/1/2012 Historical Information A newspaper story in the October 31, 2012 edition of the Boston Globe recounted the story of the Cocoanut Grove Fire on November 28, 1942. The story also coincided with the release, by the Boston Police Department Archives, of a collection of Witness Statements. The statements were given to Boston Police officials at various locations, including BPD Headquarters, BPD Division 4, Boston City Hospital, and other locations. The statements were taken starting on Sunday, November 29, 1942. The statements are contained in three volumes.
